2" vs 1" vs 0.3" flat iron: which plate width fits your hair?

Plate width decides how big a section you can press at once — and how close you can get to the root. Here is how to choose.

Choose the 2" Wide if your hair is long or thick

A wider plate — like the 2" Titanium Wide — presses a wider section in a single glide, so a full head of long or dense hair takes fewer sections. That is the main reason stylists reach for a wide iron for a silk press on Type 3–4 hair. The trade-off: a 2" plate is harder to use right at the hairline.

Choose the 1" Classic for everyday styling and curls

A 1" plate like the 1" Titanium Classic is the all-rounder: easy to handle for shoulder-length hair, bangs and flips, and narrow enough to turn and curl. On very long or very thick hair it means more sections.

Add the 0.3" Mini for edges, roots and short hair

A pencil-width plate like the 0.3" Titanium Mini reaches the hairline, the nape and the root area that a wide plate can't. It is a finishing tool: on its own it is too narrow for a full head of long hair.

Doing a full silk press?
